Would you like to showcase your library’s great work as part of the 2023-24 Annual Public Library Statistics Report?

ALIA and NSLA are in the process of creating the 2023-24 Annual Public Library Statistics Report.  This year they’re hoping to include a handful of case studies to add a human element to the stories they are telling, and they need your help.  They’re asking you to submit any case studies that you may have collected that can illustrate the four key focus areas they have identified (detailed below). Please only provide a short overview of each case study. They will reach out for detailed case studies for those we plan to include in the report.

Evolving memberships
Library membership is decreasing so we are seeking case studies around how people are using the library without needing library membership.
Examples:
– Accessing library programs and services that don’t require a library membership such as viewing local history materials, internet access, attending a community group held at the library
– Unlimited loans mean families are using one family library card

Digital inclusion
There have been notable increases in both public access device usage and digital device loans. We are seeking stories that relate to use of these services.
Examples:
– A library visitor loaning a laptop to take an online university exam
– A library visitor uses the image editing software on library computers to design flyers for their new business

Impact of library programs
Program attendance continues to increase. We are seeking stories on the impact of library programs.
Examples:
– English Conversation Club leading to a new migrant finding friends and community
– A senior person learning how to videocall their grandchild who lives in a different state

Assistance with e-government
Public libraries are increasingly providing support and access to e-government services. We are seeking case studies that support this.
Example:
– Assisting a library visitor to access Services Australia online
– Assisting a library visitor to renew their passport

You can also include any other compelling case studies you have that you think would complement the report.

ALIA/NSLA are using SurveyMonkey to collect your case studies: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8HJ95BT. You’re welcome to submit as many case studies as you like, using a separate form for each one.  Can you please submit your case studies by 20 May 2025.
