The PLV Conference program is now ready for downloading here
Following on from a highly successful statewide conference in 2019, PLV is hosting a second conference on Thurs 11 and Friday 12 May 2023 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Heading our list of keynote speakers is Skye Patrick (pictured), Los Angeles County Library Director and Library Journal’s Librarian of the Year 2019. Also confirmed is Dr Terri Janke, a Wuthathi/Meriam woman, who will present the results of her research into how culturally safe public libraries in Victoria are for Aboriginal staff and patrons. We will be joined by former MP Kate Ellis, now CEO of Raising Literacy Australia, as well as academics Danielle Wyatt and Dale Leorke who will address the question of what libraries bring to public play.
Panel presentations will address a range of topics including ‘Libraries as places of diversity and inclusion’, ‘Libraries for Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Libraries Changing Young People’s Lives’ and ‘Future Focused Services’.
Our MC for the conference is the wonderful Jacinta Parsons, broadcaster, radio maker, writer, public speaker and library lover.
In addition to the panel presentations, there will be workshops, lightning talks, a trivia quiz and chances to both give and receive reading recommendations.

Information to note when booking:
- If booking a shared registration, please enter one name and, closer to the date, we will contact you for the second person’s name and check their dietary/access requirements. If you’re not sure yet which staff members will be sharing the registration, see point 2, below.
- To book registrations (shared or otherwise) when you’re not yet sure which individual staff will be attending, on the Contact Details page, please type ‘Person’ in the First Name field and ‘1’ (2, 3, 4, etc) in the Last Name field; as long as you register a different number for each person, you can use the same/generic email address; again, we will contact you closer to the date for the names, dietary/access requirements of the individuals attending.
- The ‘discount code’ referred to on the Registration Type page applies only to the 10 smallest libraries, who are each entitled to one subsidised registration funded by LGV (if your library qualifies, you will have received the discount code).
- To make a group/batch booking, select ‘Yes’ from the drop-down menu next to ‘Is this a group booking?’ on page 2 of the registration form; we can’t offer a group discount as we’ve already kept the registration fee as low as we can. Again, if you don’t yet know the names of the individuals in the group booking, following the steps in point 2, above.
Note that you can pay online via credit card or request to pay via invoice – see the final Payment Page. If you require a purchase order number for the invoice, please email info@bccm.com.au with the request.
