ALIAVic is excited to announce the inaugural Victorian Library and Information Award (VLIA). The award aims to recognise excellence in Victoria’s library and information sector.

Nominations open on Monday 5 May and close on Sunday 22 June. We invite you to nominate any individual in the Victoria library field who has:

  • Demonstrated leadership in the development or delivery of library services and programs
  • Made significant contribution to the advancement of the library and information sector, through research, mentorship, publishing, advocacy, collaboration, or community engagement/outreach
  • Implemented new technologies or other innovations to improve library services or processes
  • Been involved in creative marketing and promotions of library programs, services, or events
  • Demonstrated initiative toward sustainability within a library

We’ve launched this award to illuminate those within our field who go that little bit further and the many wonderful achievements within Victoria’s library industry. The awards are being judged by Dr Mary Caroll, Nina Whittaker and Anne Girolami.

The winner will receive: a financial prize from ALIA and a bespoke perpetual trophy featuring Victoria’s floral and faunal emblems. The winner will be announced at our Book Week Soiree on the 22 August (we’ll have more detail of that soon).

We’re sure you all know someone who deserves to win the VLIA this year, so have a look at the selection criteria, and happy nominating!

Further details of the Awards, including eligibility criteria, can be found here.

  1. I would like to nominate someone. They meet the criteria. I don’t know their ALIA membership number but this is a required field. Is there anyway around this or do I have to go and ask the person I’m nominating?

    1. If your library service has its own ALIA membership as an institution (some do), you can use that. Otherwise, yes, the conditions require an ALIA Membership number be included.
