Brimbank Libraries

Brimbank City Council, on the land of the Wurundjeri People. The City of Brimbank is a local government area located within the metropolitan area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It comprises the western suburbs between 10 and 20 km west and northwest from the Melbourne CBD. Brimbank has an area of 123 kmĀ² and in June 2018, Brimbank had a population of 208,714.

Brimbank Libraries provides library services to the Brimbank City Council area located in the western suburbs between 10 and 20 km west and northwest from the Melbourne CBD. A commitment to sustainability is emphasized in service delivery, programs and collections where the service actively strives to embed sustainable practices. Brimbank Libraries have thermal cameras and energy saver kits available for loan, e-waste bins and many sustainability-themed programs.
Advocacy Partnership:
Brimbank Libraries partnered with the environment department in council and the Garage Sale Trail.
Promotion:
A team of six staff members planned, promoted the event and distributed the items. The event was cost neutral using the existing digital platform.
Evaluation:
Evaluation was formally completed by staff planning the event. Positive feedback from the community was received and future clothing swaps are currently being planned. In 2019, the Garage Sale Trail estimated that 400,000 Australians got involved in buying or selling second hand goods which diverted over 3.2 million kgs of items from ending up in landfill.
