Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) is partnering with Seniors Rights Victoria to expand the Warm Safe Home project for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on 15 June 2024.

The Warm Safe Home Project uses the icon of the house to talk about older people’s right to feel safe and live free from fear. The project aims to raise awareness about elder abuse, its causes, and the things that can be done to prevent it.

The project provides organisations with a free kit that includes pre-cut cardboard house templates, which can be used with local community to start conversations about elder abuse. The project organisers hope to have organisations across Victoria creating events where local people (of all ages) can decorate these house templates with words and images that depict a warm safe home, and then exhibit these model houses in community spaces like libraries and neighbourhood houses during June 2024.

HAAG and SRV will also be hosting an online exhibition, where people can send photographs of their completed Warm Safe Homes during World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2024 (15 June).
