The Australian Reading Hour is the flagship initiative for Australia Reads – a day of national celebration for books, stories and creators.

After 10 successful years each September, connecting with over 10 million people, the Australian Reading Hour is now on the move to a new time in the calendar, in March each year.

We are delighted to be announcing the date for the next Australian Reading Hour is Thursday 9 March 2023.

The change in date provides an opportunity to start the year with Australians reading together, and moves the campaign out of the busy spring season, with Love Your Bookshop Day, school exams and preparations for Christmas trading for many of our partners.

PLV looks forward to hosting the next Victoria Reads event on Thursday 9 March 2023.

Australian Reading Hour 2023: Events Program

While there will be no 2022 Australian Reading Hour, preparations with partners are in full swing to develop an inspiring program of events for March 2023 – and we’d love to keep working with Victorian libraries in 2023.

In 2019, the Australian Reading Hour registered over 300 partner events around the country, and in 2021 our digital program reached over 80,000 Australians.

Of course, most Australia Reads Ambassadors are available all through the year for events. We’re encouraging each of our partners to search our directory of amazing Australia Reads Ambassadors to find just the right author or illustrator for their events programs this year and beyond.

Australia Reads looks forward to reading and sharing stories with you on the day, and in the run-up to the event.
