OCLC’s WebJunction is a learning place for libraries, offering free, on-demand professional development and continuing education resources designed to build library staff’s knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver transformational services to their communities. With a Course Catalogue containing hundreds of on-demand courses and curated webinar recordings, and with new, idea-rich resources added monthly, WebJunction is a valuable tool to support library and staff on their professional development journey.

Kylie Peckham from OCLC has curated the following small selection of articles and webinars as a taster, and invites you to take some time to discover more at WebJunction and subscribe to Crossroads to stay updated on the latest offerings.

  • Expanding collections with a Library of Things – This is a brilliant post with a host of content on creating and running a Library of Things, including webinars, form templates, examples of best practice and other great resources.
  • Mental health resources for libraries – This is a great selection of content around mental health in libraries, not just for patrons but considering the mental load faced by library staff as well. Not only are there webinars and training on topics such as burnout, providing Mental Health First Aid, and suicide prevention, you’ll find research, links to articles and booklists on this incredibly important topic.
  • De-escalation Strategies for Libraries, Archives, and Museum StaffThis course will equip staff with ways to de-escalate conflict in libraries, offering a framework for connecting and/or intervening in a conflict, with a consideration for the safety of staff and other library users. In this course, you will also learn to use de-escalation tools to enforce policy in proactive and courteous ways and head off conflict.
  • Supercharged StorytimesSupercharged Storytimes is a self-paced course consisting of six modules, which include videosreadingsactivities, and reflection questions. The course provides training in how to intentionally apply research-based practices to boost early literacy in young children attending library storytime.

Feel free to take a look and share these resources with your colleagues.

Kylie is planning for opportunities for Australian libraries to contribute to this resource in the next calendar year.
