Social Security Rights Victoria (‘SSRV’) is a community legal centre that specialises in social security (Centrelink) related law, policy and advocacy. SSRV provides free legal services to vulnerable & disadvantaged Victorian to understand their rights and appeal incorrect Centrelink decisions. SSRV also provides community legal education to community members and other professionals.
SSRV is Victorian based but has two online resources that can be used nationally by individuals and their support workers:
- Disability Support Pension Help (DSP Help): DSP Help is a free online resource to help people, and their workers assisting them, to apply for the Disability Support Pension. During financial year 23-24, approximately 39,000 people visited DSP Help. DSP Help assists people to better understand the DSP, the appeal process and to gather better quality medical evidence to support their application. DSP Help is available here: https://dsphelp.org.au/
- Social Security Debt Help (SSD Help): SSD Help is a free online resource for people with Centrelink debts and those assisting them. Social Security Debt Help contains information about Centrelink debts, how they arise, and options to address them – including an overview of the appeal process. A financial counsellor recently referred their client to Social Security Debt Help, and the client self-advocated to achieve a $12,000 debt waiver of their Centrelink debt! Social Security Debt Help is available here: https://www.socialsecuritydebthelp.org.au/)
I would like this resource at my library
SSRV has postcards for DSP Help and Social Security Debt Help, that explain each resource to the public.
