If you would like to enter a short story for the Furphy Literary Award yourself, the details are as follows:
Enter Australia’s premier short story competition! Submission window opens on 1 February, 2025 and closes 30 April, 2025. We are looking for short stories of up to 5,000 words.

The Furphy Literary Award encourages Australian writers everywhere to roll up their sleeves and prepare a short story to enter in this year’s competition, responding to the perennial theme Australian life in all its diversity.
The highly credentialled FLA judging panel consists of Anson Cameron, Margaret Hickey, Stephanie Holt, John Kerr, Thornton McCamish and John Harms.
The Furphy Literary Award is named in honour of Australian writer Joseph Furphy, who wrote the classic Such is Life in 1903 under the pen name Tom Collins.

Entry Deadline: 30 April, 2025
First Prize: $15,000, a La Trobe University Residency and publication in The Furphy Anthology 2025
Second Prize: $3,000 plus publication in The Furphy Anthology 2025
Third Prize: $2,000 plus publication in The Furphy Anthology 2025
An additional 13 shortlisted stories are published in the annual Anthology.
