The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and Public Libraries Victoria (PLV) are delighted to announce a new partnership for the library contingent of the Midsumma Pride March, beginning with the 2027 March. This partnership will see the two organisations, and as many library staff as possible, marching together behind the Libraries Change Lives Banner, and with the Freedom to Read Banner. Our aim is to raise the profile of all types of libraries at the Pride March, from public to specialist to academic, to school and State libraries and everything in between.
This will be a coming together of library staff from across the state to celebrate our queer resources and queer staff. With ALIA and PLV working in partnership, we hope to reach all corners of the library world in this fantastic, joyful day, increasing the size of our presence in the process.
The organisation for the march will be handled by a working group, consisting of the ALIAVic Committee and self-nominated public library staff. This working group will ensure the continuity of the library contingent of the Midsumma Pride March for years to come.
Expressions of interest to join the working group will open in early October 2026. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email librariespride@gmail.com
Even if you don’t want to join the working group, we’d love to see you at the Pride March. Save the date: Sunday 31 January.
