A reminder that the Call for Abstracts for the PLV Conference is now open but closing soon on Thurs 9 Feb 2023. The Call For Abstracts Submission Form may be found here.

A reminder about the details:

How is your library service changing lives? Are you engaging in innovative programming? Creative partnerships? Advanced technologies? Exciting research? Or does it come down to a deep understanding of your community and how to meet their needs and/or fire their imaginations? – We want to hear more about your work, experience and ideas.

Session options
PLV will be holding two different kinds of sessions at the 2023 conference:

  • Panel sessions: these will be held in the plenary theatre (seats 460) and consist of four x 15-20 min presentations per session, followed by audience Q&A
  • Strategic conversations: these will be held in a smaller room (seats 130) and consist of four shorter presentations of 10 mins each, with dialogue between the presenters and audience facilitated by a chairperson.

You will be asked to indicate whether you think your presentation is best suited to a panel session or strategic conversation (or either).

Key Criteria
Submissions will be assessed on the overarching theme ‘Libraries Change Lives’. The overarching theme has six streams for consideration as listed below, plus a ‘wild card’ entry (Great Ideas from Library Land). You can indicate on your abstract submission form which stream is most relevant to your submission. You are free to enter your abstract into more than one stream, so if appropriate please select all that apply.

Conference themes:

  • Libraries as places of inclusion and diversity
  • Future focused services (e.g. lessons from the pandemic, workforce issues, adaptability, innovation, etc)
  • Libraries changing young people’s lives (e.g. creative engagement, gaming, youth health, etc)
  • What makes us libraries (e.g. innovation in memberships, benefits of reading, books and more vs. more than books; workforce; boundary setting; must-have vs nice to have)
  • Small rural libraries: challenges and opportunities
  • Libraries for health and wellbeing

Other things to note:

  • Presenters need to ensure their presentation meets the time requirements, i.e. 15-20 mins for panel presentations, 10 mins for strategic conversations; presentations should not be too short nor too long.
  • No more than two (2) presenters per abstract submitted
  • Title of abstract
  • Abstract (100 – 200 words)
  • Potential presenters are asked to indicate that they have their manager’s approval to submit an abstract
  • Successful presenters that wish to attend the conference will be able to purchase a conference registration for the discounted rate of $250 pp (ex GST)

The Call for Abstracts will close on Thurs 9 Feb 2023, after which the Conference Program Working Group will meet to review the abstracts to determine which best fit the themes and structure of the conference. We aim to advise of the outcome by the end of February.

Submit your abstract here. And feel free to forward this message to other colleagues, both inside and outside the library sector.

If you would like to submit an abstract but need more time, please email PLV CEO Angela Savage [email protected]
